Minion Method - LOW & SLOW

Minion Method! Sounds like something out of the "Wizard of Oz" or more recently, "Despicable Me."

As far as the BBQ realm is concerned, Minion Method has been around since 1876 BC... well... I can't substantiate that. In fact, I couldn't determine it's inception exactly. I only imagine Abraham, obedient to YHWH as ever, stoking the fire that would, presumably, consume his only son Isaac. As with any smart BBQer of his age, I see him setting aside a select amount of coals designated to igniting the unlit coals of the fire in order to secure a "low & slow" cook of his own flesh & blood. Confused?! Let me illustrate...

STEP 1: Light a designated amount (8-16, depending on desired initial temperature) of briquettes separately from others. Charcoal chimneys are the most common tool for this task.

STEP 2: Fill Charcoal basket with UNLIT briquettes

STEP 3: As soon as the LIT briquettes are covered in ash, add to UNLIT in charcoal basket. *** Experiment with mixing verses simply spreading LIT coals over UNLIT. ***

This is the simplest form of the Minion Method. Other forms use a coffee can to separate the UNLIT from the LIT charcoal while others use the serpentine method seen below...

Experiment and find what works best! All can achieve a LOW & SLOW cook that you crave. ENJOY!
